Church Needs Help Interpreting Scripture On Homosexuality

January 29, 2011

Condemnation to gay affirming people and the battle continues within the Church. Is homosexuality a sin or not? Seems to me there is TOO much focus on earning our way into Heaven than on the Grace of God thru Jesus the Christ. When one reads John 3:16, Romans 10: 9 & 10 and James 2:17, we see salvation is not based on what we do or don’t do, but on what God has done for us, IF we want it. If salvation was based on doing and being good, none of us would get into Heaven. Yet, some Christians have lost sight of this fact, teaching a false ‘work righteousness’. They preach repentance, but not like John the Baptist preached it. Repentance is turning towards God and following Jesus, just as we are: sinners. True, as we follow Jesus we will want to be more like Him and we will grow away from sin and closer to Jesus (not by our power, but by the power of His Holy Spirit in us). This is not a license to sin. It is a commitment to Jesus/God. God’s Holy Spirit will increase our desire to obey God’s commands and sin will not dominate us. But we will always be sinners, make no mistake. For those who are stuck on Scriptural condemnation of homosexuality, I’d focus more on what Jesus said. He did speak of fornication, but I believe we have misinterpreted His definition of the word. It is our erroneous definition that causes the condemnation of homosexuals. Fornication is any sexual relations outside of a loving, committed, monogamous relationship between two adults. Gay or straight, we do a lot of fornicating and this is the sin we must stop. It’s really quite simple. Love is love. I Corinthians 13:13 – Faith, hope and love remain, but the greatest is love. My autobiography, on Amazon Kindle, “Is God A Gay Basher?” will explain in more detail for $6. Small price to pay for peace of mind.

Gays and Christian Church

January 22, 2011

As a Christian Lesbian, passionately trying to educate mainline Christian Churches to the error of their interpretation of Scripture, in regards to homosexuality, i.e. that it is a sin, I must admit that the prospect of my endeavors and hopes are bleak . Even if all Churches changed tomorrow, I wonder if it would be too late for gay people because years of condemnation have left wounds too deep for mainline churches to heal. This is why I pray for the continued growth of Metropolitan Community Churches, for they accept and affirm all sexual orientations as they preach the Gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ. Nevertheless, I will continue trying to help mainline Churches see the truth. I hope and pray that all in the gay community (GLBT) will seek out a Metropolitan Community Church and give it a try. You can listen via the internet to one of the best MCC’s around – just type “holy cross mcc Pensacola” in the search bar and listen to the sermons, especially the one given on 10/11/09 (scroll down to find “Identity Theft”). It will change your heart. May God bless all.

Religious Right Still Wrong About Gays

January 4, 2011

Seven years ago I found an hour long Christian program on TV. I liked the husband/wife ministers of this non-denominational church. Since they were close by, I decided to attend their taping. Immediately I found they were right wing Christians so I had to find out what there belief was on homosexuality. I came out to the woman minister and found they were totally condemning. On the taping of their 5th show they spoke on human sexuality, reading from I Corinthians 6:9-11 “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived, neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God.” When the woman minister read the word ‘homosexual’ she looked directly into my eyes. After the show ended we broke into small groups to discuss what we had heard. Of course I spoke in direct opposition to their belief that homosexual love was a sin; that one was going to Hell unless they remained celibate. I was silenced after speaking for 5 minutes and was told I was welcome in their church, but could not speak about homosexuality. That’s Christian?? I left and never returned and continued my ministry of gay affirmation based on the Bible. Now, the woman minister was a converted Roman Catholic and her minister husband a converted, agnostic Jew. Neither seemed to know that there is no Hebrew or Greek word that translates into ‘homosexual’, but that did not sway their belief. What really made me laugh was the fact that this church met in a Jewish Center preaching salvation thru Christ ONLY, but neither minister condemned Jews to Hell. They just can’t get it thru their heads that a person can be gay and saved. Don’t buy into their erroneous condemnation of homosexuals. Remember, God is the Judge, not us humans.
Order my book “Is God A Gay Basher?” on Amazon and find out more of what the Bible has to say about homosexuality (nowhere does it condemn).
